This work was indirectly inspired by Sergei Prokofiev's own account of the day he was to meet his first composition teacher, Alexander Glazunov. To some extent, the piece is influence by the solo string works of Augusta Read Thomas, whose compositional voice is most admirable for its sense of freedom and rhapsody.
