Flute Sonata
Op. 22 (2023)

This piece was written for a good friend of mine, Jillian Storey.

She and I met and became friends at UNCG, where both of us were working on our doctorates. Jillian and I have played together in Catchfire Collective for a number of years now, and I have only the highest respect for her playing. It only made sense to write something for her. Jillian premiered this work at the Cape Fear New Music Festival in Fayetteville, NC in April of 2024 with Anastasia Bryant on piano.

The five movements are all rather brief and all have a very definite character. Some of it is very "in your face," some of it is very subtle and lyrical.
