Bright Light
for piano with optional auxiliary percussion
Op. 19 (2022)

Those who know me well know that usually when I need to decompress or relax, you will find me with my black coffee and my iPod listening to music. If you know me really well, you'll know that under the headphones is music from a heavy metal sub-genre called "Scottish Noise Terror." I know, I know.

The rhythmic mindset of this genre has actually come to invade a lot my music, with many sudden changes of tempo, division of the beat, time signature, and pummeling rhythms. All these actually pair quite nicely with the sonic capabilities of the piano. I decided to add crotales and a floor tom to give it just a little more "noise terror" edge.

This work received a Merit Award in the 2024 Tribeca New Music Competition.
